Privacy Policy

Pairo is a dating app for adults. That means we hold information that could genuinely hurt you if it got out — where you are, who you're interested in, what you said in a private chat. This page is a plain-English account of what we keep and what we do with it.
The three that matter most:
We never store your exact location — only a deliberately fuzzy approximation. We never show anyone who you privately picked unless they picked you back. We never sell your data to anyone, for any reason.
What we collect
To make your account
- Your phone number, or your Apple ID if you use Sign in with Apple
- Your date of birth — used to confirm you are 18 or older
We never store a password, because Pairo doesn't use one. You sign in with Apple or a code sent by text.
Your profile
- Display name, bio, height, gender, and who you're looking to meet
- Whether you've turned on LGBTQ+ mode
- Your photos
- Your city, and an approximate location
- Your search settings — distance, age range
About location. We round your coordinates before we ever save them, to roughly a 100-metre square. We do this on purpose. Exact real-time location is the single most dangerous thing a dating app can hold, so we don't hold it — not in a log, not in a backup, not anywhere. Distances shown in the app are calculated from the rounded figure, which is why they're approximate.
How you use Pairo
- Who your friends are, and who accepted your invitations
- Which Pairos you've been part of, and whether you agreed to them
- Messages in your group chats
- Who you privately picked, and your keep-or-pass decisions after a meetup
- Anyone you've blocked or reported
- Safety plans — who you told, and your check-in time
Who can see what
- Other users see: your profile, your approved photos, your first name, and who you can bring.
- Nobody sees: your phone number, your date of birth, or your exact birthday.
- Your private picks are private. If you pick someone and they don't pick you, they are never told — not a hint, not a notification, not a "someone likes you" nudge. The app only ever answers yes or no to "did we both pick each other?", and only when the answer is yes for both of you.
- Keep-or-pass is private too. The other person is never told which one you chose.
- Reports are one-way. A person you report is never shown who reported them.
These aren't promises we're asking you to take on faith — they're enforced by the database itself, which refuses to return data the rules don't allow, no matter what the app asks for.
Photos
Photos are reviewed before anyone else can see them. Until a photo is approved, only you can see it. Photos are stored separately from your profile and served over encrypted connections.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your personal information
- Share your data with advertisers or data brokers
- Post anything to your other accounts
- Read your private chats, except when investigating a specific report
- Store your exact GPS position
Services we rely on
Pairo is small, so we use a few outside companies to run it. Each one gets only what it needs to do its job:
- Supabase — hosts our database and files
- Twilio — sends your sign-in codes by text. They receive your phone number.
- Apple — handles Sign in with Apple and app distribution
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app at any time. When you do:
- Your profile and photos come down immediately
- You disappear from everyone's feed, friend lists, and search
- Your data is permanently erased within 30 days
Two things survive deletion, and you should know why. Reports made about you are kept, because otherwise someone could delete and recreate an account to escape a safety record. Records we're legally required to retain are kept for as long as the law requires. Both are held separately, and neither is visible to other users.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct anything wrong, delete your account and data, or send you a copy of your data. Email privacy@getpairo.com and we'll respond within 30 days. We will never charge you for this, and we will never treat you differently for asking.
If you're in California, the EU, or the UK, you have these rights under the CCPA, the GDPR, and the UK GDPR respectively. The same email address handles all of them.
Security
Everything travels over encrypted connections and is encrypted at rest. Access to the database is denied by default and granted one rule at a time, so a mistake in the app can't accidentally expose data the rules don't already permit.
No system is perfect. If we ever discover a breach affecting your information, we will tell you and the relevant authorities as quickly as the law requires.
Under 18
Pairo is strictly for adults. We check your date of birth at sign-up, and our database physically cannot store an account for anyone under 18. If you believe an underage person is using Pairo, report the profile in the app — those reports are handled before anything else in the queue — or email safety@getpairo.com.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
